A Day Trip to Remember

Three friends, Carol Alan and I, thought we
Would spend a day down by the sea,
But not just lazing in the sun,
To do some exploring would be more fun.
We went on the bus down to Ogmore,
The old ruined castle was the first place to go.
From there, cross the river on blocks of stone,
Through the woods to the ruin of Candleston,
Where we relaxed, had sandwiches and tea,
Watched children in the sand dunes playing with glee.
Then Carol said, 'I wonder if we
Could follow the river down to the sea.'
Over Merthyr Mawr Warren a mile or more,
We walked, till at last we reached the shore.
We sat looking over the estuary,
Then ,the bus, heading-homeward we could see,
Going up the road on the other side
Of the Ogmore river, deep and wide.
'That was the last bus. Now what do we do?'
We started to get in a dreadful stew.
Then Alan said 'There's no need to fuss,
We'll walk into Newton, they have a late bus.'
'That's two miles walk.' I said with a sigh.
'We can spend the night here then.' was Alan's reply
To spend the night asleep on the sand,
That was something that I had not planned.
So we strolled the sand in the evening sun,
Agreeing that really the day had been fun.
One thing is certain, I know that we three,
Will not forget that day by the sea.
