You've known fame and fortune As a radio star. In spirit I've been with you As you've travelled fast and far. A hippy on a Harley, Wind blowing through your hair, Always following your dreams, Your spirit free as air. For thirty years I've known you, How can that be true? When we are together You're only twenty-two. As you recall the memories Of things that have been Your voice makes the years disappear, Again I'm seventeen. Through the radio, I've been there With you on the North Sea, Walked down San Franciscan streets, And gone to Glastonbury. I shared your joy when your son was born, Played 'Pop the Question' each day, And always there has been music Somewhere along the way. Looking to the future, Whatever it may bring, I'll be there. Always wishing you The best of everything. |

Note:I wrote this poem in 1996 when Johnnie Walker was celebrating thirty years as a radio presenter. He is still broadcasting and I am still listening. |
